The Big Bang Theory Flashcards
When did the universe begin?
13.7 billion years ago
How did the universe begin?
As a violent expansion
-all matter and space were created from a single point of pure energy
What happened three minutes after the violent expansion that created the universe?
Energy frozen to matter
What happened several hundred thousand years after the violent expansion that created the universe?
Adams form specifically hydrogen and isotopes with a small amount of helium
What happened 200 to 400 million years after the Big Bang?
First stars and galaxies formed
What happened 4.6 billion years ago?
Our solar system formed
What is red shift?
When an object moves away from us it’s light waves are stretched into lower frequencies or longer wavelengths and we say that the light is red shifted
What does spectral evidence indicates?
Objects further from us are moving faster then those near
What is a Quasar?
Distant, young galaxies that emit large amounts of energy produced by supermassive black hole at its centre
