Q

When does charging by friction occur?

A

When two different neutral materials are rubbed together or come in contact and electric charges are transferred from one to the other

Q

Why do charged objects tend to lose their charges faster in the summer?

A

Because there is more water vapour so water molecules collide with the object transferring electrons from the object to the molecules

Q

Why do charged objects tend not to lose their charge in the winter?

A

Because there are less molecules to collide with the charged object

6
Q

If two objects from an electrostatic series are rubbed together, what happens to the material listed higher on the list and what happens to the material listed lower on the list?

A

Higher- will lose electrons and become positively charged

Lower- will gain electrons and become negatively charged

Q

When does charging objects by condition occur?

A

When two objects with different amounts of electric charge come in contact and electrons move from one object to the other

Q

Where do electrons move when objects are charged by conduction?

A

ALWAYS from the object with a larger negative charge to the object with a smaller negative charge. (Less positive to more positive)
