the axes of an airplane Flashcards
How many axis are there in which the airplane moves?
3
What point do all the axes pass through?
All pass through the airplane’s centre of gravity
What are the axis of the airplane?
1) Longitude axis
2) Lateral axis
3) Vertical or normal axis
What is a longitude axis?
axis that extends lengthwise through the fuselage from the nose to the tail
What is the movement around the longitude axis known as and what is it controlled by?
roll and it is controlled by ailerons
How does the pilot control the ailerons
move the stick left or right
What is the lateral axis?
axis that extends crosswise from wing tip to wing tip
What is the movement around the lateral axis known as and what is it controlled by?
pitch and it is controlled by elevators
How does the pilot control the elevators?
to bring the nose of the plane down push stick away from you
to bring the nose of the plane up pull stick towards you
What is the vertical or normal axis?
axis passes vertically through the centre of gravity
What is the movement around the vertical or normal axis known as and what is it controlled by?
yaw and it is controlled by the rudder
How does the pilot control the rudder?
Ex. Pressure applied to left pedal deflects the left rudder into the airflow. The pressure of the airflow pushes the rudder to the right so the nose of the plane yaws to the left
What is adverse yaw?
it is when the airplane is in a row but it has a tendency to yaw away from the direction of the turn this is because of the aileron drag
What are the two varieties of yaw?
1) dynamic yaw
2) static yaw
What is dynamic yaw?
It is the movement or rotation around the normal axis of the airplane
