What was the effects of the droppings on the atomic bombs on the Cold War?

A

The droppings of the 2 bombs increased tension between the USSR and USA. Stalin was angry that Truman had not told him about his plans at Potsdam.
For the soviets Hiroshima and Nagasaki were marked as a betrayal of distrust by the USA and further split the wartime alliance.

Many people were horrified at the effects of the bomb and campaigned for countries to disarm their nuclear weapons the movement became known as the ‘nuclear Pacifism’ and then became known as (CND)

A

USA has the upper hand in terms of military and the balance of the worlds power was in their favour. For the USA it caused a certain smugness and sent a clear message to the USSR that the USA had began the ‘arms race’ and that they were in the lead.
