Q

However what happened in1946 China between the 2 leaders?

A

By 196despite the best efforts of general Marshall the two sides were fighting a civil war.

As the civil war gained strength, a communist victory seemed more and more likely. Although the communists did not hold any major cities after WW2 they had strong support, superior military organisation and morale and large stocks of weapons seized from Japanese supplies.
