The Irish delegation included
Arthur Griffith, Michael Collins, Robert Barton, Éamonn Duggan and George Gavan Duffy. Erskine Childers also went to London as a secretary.
Why didnt De Valera go to the Treaty
De Valera did not go, as he wanted information to be brough back to him before any decisions were officially made, this would give the delegation extra time as it took a while for the information to be delivered.
He also wanted to be in Ireland to deal with groups like the IRA if needed
Who were the British delation
Lloyd Geogre, Winston Churchill, Austin Chamerberlain and Lord Birkenhead. They were experienced in politics and negotiation, having just negotiated the Treaty of Versailles at the end of WW1.

The negtiations
The negotiations lasted for October to December 1921.
They were pressured by Lloyd Geogre to accept a deal, with the threat of war if they refused
The terms of the Anglo-Irish Treaty
On 6th December 1921, the treaty was signed
- Ireland would be a dominion
- All TD’s would have to take oath of allegiance to the British Crown.
- Northern Ireland would continue to stay in Britian and have its own parliament.
- A boundary commission would set up to decide a border between the north and south of Ireland
