A

A

Parnells popularity grew because he tried to solve the land question
Home Rule party won 63 seats in the British General election of 1880.
Parnell used the method of political agitation
Political means were increasingly favoured.
Home rule became known as the Irish Parliamentary Party.
The first Home Rule Bill was defeated as many left that it would lead to Ireland having full independence.
False accusation on Parnell increased popularity.
Katherine O’Shea, his wife was his political downfall.
The second Home Rule bill failed again

A

The IRB was founded in 1858, it wanted complete independece from Britain. They also wanted Ireland to be a republic. They would use physical force to achieve this.

The Third Home Rule Bill

A

The Home Rule seemed possible and they attempted for the third time, the Parliament Act. Home Rule would become law in 1914.
The Unionists were not happy, they created the Ulster Volunteer Force, a parliametary force.
The Irish Volunteer Force was then founded in November 1913

World War I impact

A

On the 4th August 1914, Britian declared war on Germany. The Home Rule bill was suspended
The war split the Irish Volunteer Force, into the National Volunteers and the Irish Volunteers

John Redmond helped Britian in the War so then when they come back into Ireland they might be given conpensation, and might recieve the Home Rule
