Large scale petitioning campaign against a new prayer book presented with huge crowds in Edinburgh. Charles got the Bishops to reform the Scottish liturgy by making it more like the English one

Swore to resist against the King’s prayer book
Made loyalty to the King on the condition that he preserved the laws of the Kingdom and protected it; this conditional loyalty enabled a successful armed rebellion against the King in the Bishops’ Wars (1639-40).

1640 - Charles agreed to abolish episcopacy (government of a Church by Bishops) in Scotland
