Thalamus & Internal Capsule Flashcards
Divisions of Thalamus
- Internal Medullary Lamina
- Intralaminar nuclei
- Thalamic Reticular nuclei
- Midline nuclei
Divisions of Internal Medullary Lamina
anterior, medial, lateral
Intralaminar nuclei
non-specific
projects to basal ganglia and cerebral cortex
Thalamic reticular nucleus
- interneuron of thalamus
- inhibitory, GABA
- everything involved with thalamus projects to it
- isolates novel stimuli from background
Anterior Thalamic Interconnection
passes through anterior limb of internal capsule to the pre frontal and cingulate gyrus
Superior Thalamic Interconnection
passes through the posterior limb of internal capsule to the motor and somatosensory cortex
Posterior Thalamic Interconnection
passes through the retrolenticular of IC to occipital, parietal, and temporal
Inferior Thalamic Interconnection
passes through the sublenticular of IC to anterior temporal and orbital cortex
Inputs/Outputs for Thalamus Anterior
Mammilary body, hippocampus to Cingulate gyrus
Inputs/Outputs for Thalamus Ventral Anterior
Basal Ganglia to Pre-frontal
Inputs/Outputs for Thalamus Ventral Lateral Anterior
Globus Paladis internal to supplementary motor cortex
Inputs/Outputs for Thalamus Ventral Lateral Posterior
Cerebellar nuclei to Premotor & Motor cortex
Inputs/Outputs for Thalamus Ventral Posteromedial
Spinal Trigeminal to Somatic sensory cortex
Inputs/Outputs for Thalamus for Ventral Posterolateral
Spinal thalamic to Somatic sensory cortex
Association Inputs/Outputs for Thalamus Pulvinate & Lateral Posterior
