Testing Flashcards
Test used to check VA in infants and pre verbal pts that use vertical black and white stripes
Teller acuity cards
Chart used to check VA in pre-school children age 2+ and mentally challenged older or illiterate adults that uses pictures
Allen picture chart
Chart used to check VA in pre-school children age 2+ and illiterate adults that uses the letter E facing different directions
Tumbling E’s
VA test good for illiterate and pre school children that has the pt identity where the break in the letter C is
Landolt’s Broken Ring Test
*VA test used for young or mentally challenged children or adults with language barrier that gives corresponding key chart card to identify the corresponding letter
Sheridan-Gardiner Test (matching test)
*Test used to test VA that uses light source with illuminated Snellen chart, lens projects chart through 0.1mm diameter opening. Pt’s spherical equivalent is dialed in. Used most often to determine what part of a pts visual loss is due to retinal disease and what part of their visual loss is due to abnormalities in front part of eye such as cataract.
PAM (potential acuity meter)
This tests uses a pattern of stripes(different widths, some horizontal, vertical, etc.) Estimates postoperative VA with laser light.
Laser inferometer test
Chart used in clinical studies and low va evals, adopted from Early Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy Study. Geometric progression in letter size from line to line. Accurate and very repeatable. No A, L, or T’s.
Visual acuity ETDRS
Chart used in pre school ages 3-7, video acuity tester with monitor, software, and hand controller. Calibrated at 3 meters. Uses high contrast (H O T & V), single letters framed with crowding bars spaced a letter width around the letter.
EVA (electronic visual acuity)
*Evaluates central 20 degrees of VF using 1degree (5 mm) spaced grid
Amsler
*Uses K as a front surface mirror/measures the flattest and steepest meridians of the central 3mm (corneal cap)measured in D or mm’s/ prism splits light into 2 images-horizontal, vertical meridians/starting point for CL fitting/measures the anterior surface of K
Ophthalmometer (keratometer)
