Testimony Flashcards

1
Q

I. If you were to die tonight, are you confident that you would go to heaven? Upon what are you resting your assurance of eternal salvation?

A

a. Romans 10:9: If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
i. I was raised in church, always knew about Jesus, never knew Him personally. Believed God had no presence in the world.
ii. Jesus revealed Himself to me in 3 very challenging ways.
iii. Truth is truth, regardless of my opinion. The salvation decision is not a decision of whether or not Jesus is Lord. Jesus is Lord, regardless of my opinion. The salvation decision is whether or not I will confess He is Lord and follow Him.
1. Confess = admission of truth.
iv. 02/12/2012, I believed in my heart He rose again and confessed Him as Lord of my life and have followed Him ever since.

Q

II. What do you consider constitutes a ‘call to ministry’? Relate your experience in determining “God’s Call” to the Gospel ministry.

A

a. 1 Timothy 3:1: The saying is trustworthy: if anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task.
i. Keywords: aspire and desire
1. Aspire: To direct one’s hopes of ambitions towards achieving something.
2. Desire: A strong feeling of wanting or wishing for something to happen.
3. The use of these words show us that pastoring has to be something that the individual wants to do. It has to come from the heart. It can’t be something he is asked to do, there first has to be a desire to do it.
ii. This aspiration/desire comes in two forms:
1. Inward calling: God’s spirit prompts the desire and aspiration within the individual He has called.
a. Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
b. His desires become our desires.
2. External calling: the church congregation evaluates and affirms the calling of the individual.
iii. 02/12/2012 PM: sensed the call, confessed it to a friend, fleshed out in multiple ways since then:
1. Missions
2. Sunday School teaching
3. Ad Hoc preaching
4. Adopting/Pastoring my family
5. Youth Ministry
6. I want to serve God’s church in whatever capacity He would have me. If that’s to pastor, then here I am.
