II. Give Scriptural verification that the Holy Spirit is coequal with God and our Lord Jesus.

A
  1. Matthew 3:16-17: … the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on Him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well please.”
  2. Genesis 1:2: The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
  3. 1 John 5:7: For there are three that bear witness in heaven: The Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.

Q

III. Do you believe in the ongoing work of miraculous sign gifts such as speaking in tongues?

A
  1. No. It has to have a purpose.
  2. When tongues was first used in Acts at the very beginning of the church, thousands of people were gathered from all kinds of nations and languages.
  3. The apostles did not speak in different languages. They spoke in their own language. But what the hearers heard they heard in their own language.
  4. The purpose of tongues in this moment was to spread the gospel to people who did not speak the same language as the apostles.
  5. Today, it seems when people appear to use “tongues”, the purpose is to separate/distinguish themselves from others and appear more “holy”. This is a very pharisaical approach to the use of tongues.
  6. 1 Corinthians 13:8-10: Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
  7. The use of tongues, instigated by the Holy Spirit, has ceased.
