Q
I. What evidence do you find in Scripture that Jesus was God? Man? Why are both important?
A
- God:
- Trinity existed in the beginning in Genesis 1:26: “Let us make man in our image”.
- Scripture claims it: Titus 2:13: Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ
- He did what only God can do
- Performed miracles: Luke 17:11-19, Story of the Ten Lepers
- Forgave sin: Luke 7:47-48: Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little. And He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven”.
- Man:
- He was born
- He died
- He was tempted:
- Hebrews 4:15: For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
- James 1:13: Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”, for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself tempts no one.
- The fact that Jesus was tempted by Satan in the desert, though He is God and God cannot be tempted, proves His humanity.
- It is important for Jesus to be both fully God and fully man because God’s law requires men to be fully perfect in obedience to His law or suffer death as penalty. If Jesus was not fully man, then His life and sacrifice would be insufficient to atone for our sins. If He was not also fully God, then He would not have the ability to offer forgiveness for our sins and reconciliation with God the Father.

Q
II. Does the Bible claim that Jesus is God?
A
- Yes. See Titus 2:13: Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ

Q
III. Why did Christ come to earth?
A
- Jesus came to seek and save the lost.
- Luke 19:10: The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
- John 3:16-17: For God so lover the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him.
- God loves us so much that He sacrificed His only Son so that we who believe and follow Him can be saved from eternal damnation.

Q
IV. Why is the resurrection of Jesus important?
A
- In order for eternal life to be offered to us, eternal death must be conquered. Had Jesus not risen again, death would be permanent.
- 1 Corinthians 15:16-19: For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.
