What is Crystallized intelligence?
Refers to verbal ability and accumulated knowledge
What is fluid intelligence?
Refers to abstract reasoning and mental flexibility
What is IQ score?
An index of intelligence originally derived by dividing mental age by Chronicle age and then multiplying by 100.
What is reliability?
The ability of a test to yield nearly the same score each time a person takes the test or an alternative form of the test
What is validity?
Ability of a test to measure what is intended to measure
What is behavioral genetics?
A field of research that investigates the relative the effects of heredity and environment on behavior and ability
What is emotional intelligence?
A type of intelligence that includes an awareness of one’s own emotions, as well as the ability to motivate oneself, to emphasize, and to handle relationships successfully
What are motives?
Needs or desires that energize and direct behavior toward a goal
What is an incentive?
An external stimulus that motivates behavior …example money, fame
What is intrinsic motivation?
Desire to perform and not because it is satisfying or pleasurable in and of itself
What is intrinsic motivation?
Desire reform an act in order to gain a reward or to avoid an undesirable consequence
What are instincts?
An inborn, unlearned, fixed pattern of behavior that is characteristic of an entire species
What is drive?
A state of tension or arousal brought about by an underlying need, which motivates one to engage in behavior that will satisfy the need and reduce the tension
What is homeostasis?
The tendency of the body to maintain a balanced internal state with regards to body temperature, blood sugar, water, oxygen level, and so forth to ensure physical survival
What is the yerkes-dodson law?
The principle that performance on task is best when arousal level is appropriate to the difficulty of the task
- higher arousal for simple tasks, moderate arousal for tasks of moderate difficulty, Lower arousal for complex tasks
