Explain why gram positive and gram negative bacteria react differently with antibiotics
Some antibiotics can inhibit the formation of thick peptidogkycan cell all in gram positive bacteria. Some antibiotics are not able to cross the thick peptidoglycan cell wall therfore effective against gram negative
Explain why some proteins may be soluble
Proteins is folded so that Hydrophobic parts are in the middle and Hydrophilic parts are on the outside these exposed r groups (globular protein) are polar therfore they form hydrogen bonds with water
Advantages of mitosis
Does not require a mate
Can produce large numbers of offspring
Advantages of meiosis
Source of genetic variation
As it involves crossing over and independent assortment
Genetic variation allows organisms to adapt to enviornemtnal change
Why is stain used in light microscope when preparing tissues
Provides greater contrast
Stain attaches to specific parts of cell
Explain why misfolded protein cannot be digested bu some protease enzymes
Protease enzyme have active site specific to certain amino acid sequences or substrate so misfolded protein can no longer fit and therfore enzyme cannot hydrolysed peptide bond
Why are viruses dependant on living cells
Because they cannot replicate independlty as they contain enzymes
Explain why information within a table can be insufficient when making conlusions
Doesn’t take into account how other factor affect it
End products of double fertilisatoon
Tripled endosperm nucleus which is a source of nutrients for embryo
