Gas Exchange Flashcards
How does stomata open
Caused by ions moving into the guard cells which causes water to move in by osmosis because water potential has decrease. Therfore guard cell is turgid causing the guard cells to swell and the stomata to open
Hydrostatic pressure
The residual pressure from he heartbeat that is still present as the blood enters the external end of the cappilary beds and tends to force fluid out through the cappilary walls
Oncoming pressure
Tendency for water to move into the cappilaries by osmosis
How is fluid squeezed out of the cappilaries
When hydrostatic pressure is greater than oncoming pressure fluid leaves cappilaries and tissue fluid forms
Factors affecting transpiration
Light
Temperature
Wind speed
Air humidity
Loght
As light intensity increases the amount of stomata opening increases and the rate of transpiration increases
How is new species fomed
When a organism is rpeorductively isolated this leads to the formation of new species due to the build of genetic information and due to different selective pressures and enviornments
