test 4 posterior leg Flashcards
superficial posterior leg muscles
- Gastrocnemius
- Soleus
- Plantaris
Gastrocnemius: Lateral head (LG) origin
Lateral aspect of lateral condyle of femur
Gastrocnemius: Lateral head (LG) insertion
Posterior surface of calcaneus via calcaneal tendon
Gastrocnemius: Lateral head (LG) innervation
Tibial nerve (S1, S2)
Gastrocnemius: Lateral head (LG) action
Plantarflexes ankle when knee is extended; raises heel during walking, and flexes leg at knee joint
Gastrocnemius: Medial head (MG) origin
popliteal surface of femur, superior to medial condyle
Gastrocnemius: Medial head (MG) insertion
Posterior surface of calcaneus via calcaneal tendon
Gastrocnemius: Medial head (MG) innervation
Tibial nerve (S1, S2)
Gastrocnemius: Medial head (MG) action
Plantarflexes ankle when knee is extended; raises heel during walking, and flexes leg at knee joint
Soleus (SOL) origin
Posterior aspect of head of fibula, superior quarter of posterior surface of fibula, soleal line, and medial border of tibia
Soleus (SOL) insertion
Posterior surface of calcaneus via calcaneal tendon
Soleus (SOL) innervation
Tibial nerve (S1, S2)
Soleus (SOL) action
Plantarflexes ankle; steadies leg on foot
Plantaris (P) origin
Inferior end of lateral supracondylar line of femur and oblique popliteal ligament
Plantaris (P) insertion
Posterior surface of calcaneus via calcaneal tendon
