Describe the life cycle of Toxoplasma gonii.
Sexual cycle occurs in a cat. micro and macro gametes are formed in the stomach. oocysts are formed and are pooped out. oocysts hatch into sporozoites which are eaten by a mouse. In the mouse the sporozoites become tachyzoites, which can be passed onto a fetus. In a chronic infection the tachyzoites become bradyzoites in tissue cysts. The mouse is eaten by a cat, completing the cycle.
Which two types of tissues do bradyzoites live in?
muscle and brain.
Which form of the parasite causes infection in cats?
Bradyzoites.
