Test 3 Lovaas Flashcards
Areas to monitor
how to use instructions what behaviors to reinforce how to select and deliver reinforcers how to prompt how to pace trials how to weaken interfering behaviors where and when to teach
Instructions
understandable different stimuli randomly rotate instructions make sure student responds right away short ITI
Selecting Behavior
temporarily discontinue teaching that leads to PB
break down complex behavior
don’t teach eye contact early
minimize length of sitting in chair
make sure to teach 1 thing at a time (no “look at me” before trial)
don’t assume prior knowledge
don’t overwhelm the student
selecting reinforcers
avoid limited set of reinforcers avoid satiation use primary and secondary combos individualize (don't be loud to sound sensitive students) do not delay reinforcement avoid reinforcing incorrect behavior don't use complex comments to reinforce don't reinforce escape maintained PB avoid reinforcing errors
Prompting
avoid inadvertent prompts overlap instructions and prompts fade prompts make sure SD is SD and prompt is not SD use modelling instead of phys prompts
pacing
keep iti short
intersperse mastered with new
prevent attention drift
no self-stimulatory behaviors during breaks
Weakening interfering behaviors
withold maintaining reinforcers for interfering behaviors
make sure time-out is not negatively reinforcing
remember social consequences are irrelevant for automatically reinforced behaviors
When and Where to teach
early = one room at a table
be aware that new teachers = generalization training
don’t assume mainstreaming will work
regression can occur if a mid functioning is placed with low functioning ind
don’t expect optimal progress with any less than 40 hrs per week
hardest tasks in the morning
