Test 3 Ch.6 Flashcards
Ideal Body Weight (IBW) equation for males
106+6 (H in inches- 60) /2.2
IBW equation for female
105+5 (H- 60)/ 2.2
What is the acceptable initial VTof IBW?
6 to 8 mL/kg
What is the acceptance initial RR?
10 to 20 breaths/min
For pts which airway obstruction and resistance are high
An initial Vt of 6 to 8 mL/kg for IBW
For pts with chronic or acute restrictive disease an initial VT of RR of
8-12 breaths/min
For ARDS pts an initial Vt of
4- 6 mL/kg
In ARDS an RR of ____-_____ is acceptable
15-25
As suggested in restrictive disease lower
VT and higher RR are used in ARDS
ARDS protocol (3)
- Low Vt
- high RR
- high PEEP
What is Minute Ventilation equation?
VE=VT x F
Example of VE: VT is 700, RR is 15
10,500 or 10.5
If RR is increased, the pt may have what? and why?
Higher minute ventilation, b/c pt is working hard to breathe
The movement of air in &out of the lungs
Minute Ventilation
If RR is decreased the pt may have what? and why?
Lower minute ventilation , b/c pt is not working hard enough to breathe
