Terms Lab 25 (complete) Flashcards
facial nerve
(cranial nerve VII) emerges just caudal to the external acoustic meatus; many branches swirl out from the origin
ventral buccal nerve
Branch of the facial nerve; travels along the ventral edge of the masseter muscle
dorsal buccal nerve
Branch of the facial nerve; travels along the across the dorsal part of the masseter muscle
auriculopalpebral nerve
Most dorsal branch from the facial nerve; short trunk
rostral auricular nerve branches
Caudal branch from the auriculopalpebral nerve (trunk))
palpebral nerve branches
Rostral branch from the auriculopalpebral nerve (trunk)
mandibular nerve
Trigeminal nerve (cranial nerve V) deep to the ramus of the mandible; many branches
lingual nerve
Most rostral branch of the mandibular nerve; longest branch; seen on the surface of the pterygoid muscles; travels ventrally to the tongue
inferior alveolar nerve
Middle branch of the mandibular nerve seen on the pterygoid muscles; passes into the mandibular foramen in the medial aspect of the ramus
maxillary nerve
Travels across the pterygoid muscles ventral to the orbit
infraorbital nerve
Continuation of the maxillary nerve
vagus nerve
Cranial nerve (X) travels in the carotid sheath as the vagosympathetic trunk
cervical sympathetic trunk
Portion of the vagosympathetic trunk?
cranial cervical ganglion
Located deep; ventral to the external acoustic meatus
hypoglassal nerve
Cranial nerve VIII emerges caudoventral to the external acoustic meatus; travels to the root of the tongue over the hypoglossus muscle
