Terms Lab 21 (complete) Flashcards
lumbosacral plexus
Diffuse plexus consisting of the ventral branches of lumbar and sacral nerves (find location); origin of the sciatic nerve
obturator nerve
Located just caudal to the femoral triangle; short thick nerve
femoral nerve
Runs with the femoral artery and vein; immediately branches
saphenous nerve
Branch from the femoral nerve; follows the saphenous artery and vein distally along the inner thigh
pudendal nerve
Larger superficial nerve; runs medially toward the perianal region along the superficial gluteal muscle
caudal rectal nerve
Transversely oriented fibers in the perianal region; proximal to the pudendal nerve
dorsal nerve of the penis/clitoris
Continuation of the pudendal nerve
caudal gluteal nerve
Deep to the superficial gluteal muscle
cranial gluteal nerve
Deep to the middle gluteal muscle
sciatic nerve
Largest nerve; deep to the biceps femoris
common peroneal (fibular) nerve
Smaller branch from the sciatic nerve near the medial aspect of the knee
superficial peroneal (fibular) nerve
Superficial branch from the common fibular nerve; tarsal region of the distal limb
deep peroneal (fibular) nerve
Deep branch of the common fibular nerve; many deep branches distal to the knee
tibial nerve
Continuation of the sciatic nerve; deep in the thigh near the knee
dorsal pedal artery
Continuation of the cranial tibial artery; visible superficially near the cranial side of the hock
