name assigned by the company that developed the drug
trade or proprietary
refferes to teh name given to the generic drug by the manufacturer

powdered drug compressed or molded into a disk shap
capsule

drugs dissolved into a liquid vehicle and DOES NOT settle if left out

semisolid drug form that melts at body temperature and penetrates skin or occular tissue
elixir
drug dissolved in a sweetened alcohol base
tincture
drug dissolved in alcohol for topical application
syrup
drug dissolved in 85% sucrose
suspension
drug particle suspended in a liquid vehicle and will settle
paste
semisolic drug for that is administered orally
injectables
a drug administration via needle and syringe
ampule
airtight glass container opened by snapping neck off glass
vial
glass container sealed with a rubber stopper
extract
ground up plant or animal parts that have been filtered, refined and prepared in a medicinal form
compounding
any manipulant of a drug to produce a dosage form differet from the approved product
regimen
the amount, route, frequency, and duration
dosage
the amount of drug given per unit of body weight
dose
the total amount of drug given at one time
prescription drug
potentially toxic drug that can only be used under the supervision of a veterinarian
prescription
orders prepared by a vet providing info for a pharmacist to prepare a drug for use by client
extralable drug use
using a drug in a way that is NOT specified on its FDA label
withdrawal time
the length of time it takes for a drug to be eliminated form animal tissue after it is no longer used
over the counter drugs (OTC)
drugs sold with out a prescription
controlled substances
drugs that can be legally ordered, used or prescribed by a vet with a DEA license
reverse distributer
a registrant who is authorized to recieve controlled expired materials
