What does Terbutaline do in general?
Terbutaline relaxes smooth muscles, blocks urine activity, and causes bronchodilation
What does Terbutaline do in the OB?
Terbutaline is used for the TX of preterm labor
What is the administration route for Terbutaline?
Subcutaneously
What is the frequency of Terbutaline?
0.25mg q4hr for no longer than 24hrs
What is an important contraindication for the use of Terbutaline in patients who are dilated?
Don’t use Terbutaline if the patient is dilated to greater than 4cm
Are mild Tachycardia and palpitations expected in patients taking Terbutaline?
Yes, they are mild and expected
When does the Tachycardia from Terbutaline become intolerable and require intervention?
When the heart rate becomes greater than 130 BPM
A patient taking Terbutaline experiences lung crackles, dyspnea, and a decrease in O2 saturation. You report this to the physician immediately because these are signs of what?
A Pulmonary Edema
When do you notify the physician of the Fetal tachycardia as a result of Terbutaline?
When the FHR exceeds 180 BPM
Considering the effects of Terbutaline, what patients should not recieve it?
-Heart disease patients
-Pregestational/Gestational diabetes
-Preeclampsia
