What route is Hemabate given?
IM injection
What is the frequency of Hemabate administration?
0.25mg (250mcg) IM q15-90 minutes
What are some adverse effects of Hemabate? Specifically, the BIG one?
EXPLOSIVE DIARRHEA is the big side effect of Hemabate.
Otherwise, it’s the usual:
-Fever/Chills
-Headache
-HTN
-Tachycardia
What are patient contraindications for Hemabate?
Patients with Asthma should not use Hemabate
Can patients with Cardiac issues (HTN, Pulmonary/Hepatic disease) safely take Hemabate?
No, patients with Cardiac disease, Pulmonary disease, Hepatic disease, and Asthma should avoid Hemabate
What should you give to a patient who is about to take hemabate to avoid the BIG adverse effect?
An anti-diarrheal medication
What should be monitored in a patient taking Hemabate?
Vaginal bleeding and uterine tone
