Tennis elbow & Golf elbow✅ Flashcards
Etiology of Tennis elbow
Inflammation of the origin of extensor carpi radialis brevis and extensor muscles (lateral epicondyle)
repetitive wrist extension and exerting hand grip
Etiology of Golf elbow
Inflammation of wrist flexors, flexor carpi radialis and pronators (medial epicondyle)
repetitive flexion of the wrist, gripping, grasping and turning the hand
SSx of tennis elbow
Tenderness when wrist extensors fully stretched
pain and swelling
Reduced strength in gripping objects, heavy lifting, forearm rotation
SSx of golf elbow
Tenderness and swelling
Pain with resisted wrist flexion & pronation
Reduced strength and wrist flexion and hand grip
Difficulty in forearm extension
Ax for tennis elbow
Cozen’s Test
Tx for tennis elbow
TE band (1 inch distal to lateral epicondyle) → provide counter-force against the contracting muscles → spread the force over a wider area
wear daytime only
static stretching exercise → regain strength of tendon to glide; lengthen the muscle and tendon
strengthening (dumbbell)
proper body mechanism
