Paresthesias to the distribution of the distal median nerve (palmar aspect of thumb, IF, MF, radial half of RF)

Thenar atrophy

Etiology of carpal tunnel syndrome

A

repetitive flexion or bending at the wrist –> inflammation and swelling within the carpal tunnel of the wrist and puts pressure on the median nerve

Tx for carpal tunnel syndrome

A
  • Edema control
  • Pain management.
  • Range of motion
  • Sensory re-education
  • Splinting (wrist in neutral)
  • Preventive education: Assisting with modifications to everyday tasks that require repetitive wrist movements.
