Shoulder dislocation✅ Flashcards
1
Q
SSx of shoulder dislocation
A
Acute:
* popping sensation
* sudden onset of pain with decreased ROM
* swelling
* shoulder depressed on affected side
* axillary nerve compromise
→ weakness in deltoid and teres minor
→ sensory disturbance over deltoid
Chronic:
* pain
* repeated shoulder dislocations
2
Q
Etiology of shoulder dislocation
A
Types:
1. Anterior
* most common
MOI: Abd, ER, Ext (throwing action)
- Posterior
MOI: flex, add, IR (electric shock)
3
Q
General treatment of shoulder dislocation
A
immobilize by sling: few days - 4 wks
4
Q
Precaution of shoulder dislocation
A
No active shoulder abduction over 90’
No extension pass neutral
No abd+ER
5
Q
Occupational performance issue of shoulder dislocation
A
- Immobilization: One handed technique
- Limited ROM
- Muscle atrophy
- Pain
- Precaution –> affect sleep positioning (one pillow under the affected shoulder and one pillow under the arm)
- hypersensitivity in axillary nerve distribution
- Avoid soaking the wound with water –> bathing → prepare a shower sling and a regular sling/ hand-held shower head
