Q

tmj clinical signnificance

A
  1. lat. TM lig prevents posterior dislocation of the mandible so as not to
fracture the tympanic plate when a severe blow falls on the chin.
  2. If the disc is partially detached from the capsule, its movements
become noisy and produce audible click during movement of the joint

16
Q

contents of infratemporal fossa

A
  • Sphenomandibular ligament.
  • Medial & lateral pterygoid muscle.
  • Mandibular nerve
  • Maxillary artery.
  • Branches of facial nerve.
  • glossopharyngeal nerve
  • Pterygoid plexus.
17
Q

Branches of Mandibular nerve

A

Mandibular nerve enters the infratemporal
fossa via foramen ovale & gives 2 branches
before dividing into ant & post trunk

18
Q

2 branches of Mandibular nerve

A

Meningeal nerve & nerve to medial pterygoid.

19
Q

Anterior trunk branches:

A

Sensory : buccal

Motor : masseteric , deep temporal, nerve to lateral pterygoid

20
Q

Posterior trunk branches:

A

sensory : auriculotemporal nerve, lingual nerve, inferior alveolar nerve
motor : nerve to mylohyoid (branch of inferior alveolar nerve)

21
Q

NErve supply of parotid gland

A

sensory : auriculotemporal nerve

preganglionic parasympathetic fibers to otic ganglion come from : glossopharyngeal nerve

22
Q

mandibular division of trigerminal nerve

A

mandibular nerve leaves the skull through foramen ovale.

23
Q

mandibular division, of trigerminal nerve. motor fibres innervate

A
  • muscle of mastication including
  • temporalis,
  • masseter,
  • medial & lateral pterygoid,
  • tensor tympani,
  • tensor veli palatini,
  • anterior belly of digastric &
  • mylohyoid muscle.
24
Q

Mandibular nerve also receives

sensory branches from

A
  • skin of lower face,
  • cheek,
  • lower lip,
  • ear,
  • external acoustic meatus & temporal region, anterior 2/3 of tongue,
  • teeth of lower jaw,
  • mastoid air cells,
  • mucous membrane of cheek,
  • mandible, and
  • dura in middle cranial fossa.
25
Q

Maxillary artery

A

• Maxillary artery—branch of External carotid

artery.

26
Q

maxillary artery is the major source of blood supply to

A

• Maxillary artery—branch of External carotid

artery.

27
Q

branches of maxilla artery got 3 branches

A

1st part : middle meningeal artery, inferior alveolar artery, small branches like ; deep auricular, ant tympanic and accesory
2nd : deep temporal , masseteric, buccal, pterygoid branch
3rd : pterygopalatine fossa

28
Q

Pterygoid plexus

A
These veins drain from
• nasal cavity,
• oral cavity,
• all teeth,
• muscles of infratemporal fossa,
• paranasal sinuses & nasopharynx.
• In addition inferior ophthalmic vein from orbit drain through inferior
orbital fissure into pterygoid plexus.
