Teeth Flashcards
What is the first layer of the tooth
The enamel
What is special about the enamel
It is the hardest substance in the human body
What layer is beneath the enamel
The dentine
What is below the dentine
The pupil cavity
What 3 layers make up the crown
Enamel,dentine and pulp cavity
Surrounding the tooth is the
Gum and bone
The end of the enamel is full of
Cement and fibres
The end of the pulp cavity is full of
Nerves and blood vessels
The bottom of the tooth is called
Root ending opening
The root is made up of
Gum,bone,cement,fibres,nerves,blood vessels,root end and opening
What are the 4 types of teeth
Incisors
Canines
Molars
Pre molars
What are the incisors
Front 2 teeth top and bottom used for biting
What canines
Canines 2 teeth on either side of incisors top and bottom,Used for ripping and tearing food
What is the premolar
Set of 2 teeth either side of canines to and bottom,Uswd for grinding and chewing
What is the molar

Crown
Part of the tooth above the gum
Root
Part of tooth below the gum
Enamel
Outer surface of the tooth(hardest substance in the body)
Dentine
Softer layer beneath the enamel
Pulp cavity
Captains the nerves and blood vessels
Cement and fibres
Responsible for holding the tooth in the jaw bone
Nerves and blood vessels
Provide nutrients to the tooth(give it feeling)
What should the Ph of the mouth be
5.5
What can cause tooth decay
Poor oral hygiene
Regular snacking
Diet high in sugar and fizzy drinks
Avoiding regular checks to the dentist
How do you prevent tooth decay
Brush teeth twice a day
Use mouth wash
Floss
Visit dentist twice a years
Avoid sugary foods and fizzy drinks
Why is sugar bad for our teeth
Sugar is what allows the plaque bacteria to release acid ad it provides it with energy.low intake of sugary foods is better
Why is regular snacking bad for teeth
After eating, acid can attack for over an hour and cause enamel lost,The more snacking=more enamels loss=dental cavities
Avoiding the dentist is bad because
As you miss out on advice and the ability to spot sign s of early decay
Teeth digest our food
Mechanically and are 1 of the 1st steps
What do teeth do
Breakdown our food into smaller pieces, increasing the surface area and making chemical digestion, occur more efficiently
