Energy Flashcards
What do we need energy for
Heart to pump blood around the body
Our brain to think and learn
Our muscles to move
Where to we get energy from
The food we eat
What dog food energy used to be measured in and what is it measured in now
Kilocalories and is now measured in joules
1000 joules =
1 kilojoule
Protein=

Fat=

Carbohydrates =

How to we find the nerdy content of a food
We can burn them and use the heat released to warm known mass of water. The temperature increase of the food can help us calculate the energy content.
How do we calculate energy in 1g of food
Rise in temperature x volume of liquid x 4.2
What factors can cause amount of energy needed to vary
Gender
Age
Amount of daily activity
On average the energy a
Man=
Woman=
=10,470 kj
=8370 kj
What equipment do need you need to do the energy experiment
Thermistor that goes in boiling tube with known water mas
Mesh to fold crisp
Stand and clamps to hold everything
Bunsen burner to burn crisp
Why might energy calculated be slightly off
Some of the heat burned will gone into the boiling tube or the surrounding atmosphere
