25
Q

what is the side of the tooth that faces the vestibule?

A

Buccal or labial

26
Q

what is the side of the tooth that faces the tongue?

A

lingual

27
Q

how are tooth sockets lined?

A

with thin lamina of compact bone.
some may be braced by spongy bone that extends into and merges with the internal compact of the jaw.

28
Q

what are the functions of incisors?

A

grasping and tearing food

29
Q

what are the functions of canines?

A

weapons
holding

30
Q

what are the functions of premolars

A

cutting and holding food inplace

31
Q

what are the functions of the molars?

A

cutting + crushing

32

and what is the dentition?

A

42

3 1 4 2
3 1 4 3

33
Q

how many teeth do cats have and what is the dentition?

A

30

3 1 3 1

34
Q

how many teeth do pigs have and what is the dentition?

A

44

3 1 4 3
3 1 4 3

35
Q

which teeth are not deciduous

A

molars

36
Q

how are pig teeth specialised for a harder diet?

A

cheek teeth (PM+M) have broad crowns for crushing

37
Q

what are needle teeth?

A

deciduous 3rd incisors and canines in pigs

38
Q

what are wolf teeth?

A

Maxillary 1st premolars (don’t always grow in)

39
Q

describe how the cup is formed

A

infundibulum - infolding of the enamel
horses teeth erupt constantly so the occasional surface wears down eventually exposing the secondary dentin which is yellow in colour.
this exposed dentin is called the dental star.
eventually this gets worn away leaving only the enamel spot (cup/infundibulum)

40
Q

what are peg teeth?

A

2nd incisors in lagomorphs

41
Q

what type of teeth to rabbits have

A

Aradicualr hypsodont (elodont)

42
Q

what does aradicular mean?

A

no true root

43
Q

what does radicular mean

A

true root

44
Q

what are elodont teeth?

A

constantly growing

45
Q

which of the 12 facial nerves innervates the teeth? and through which divisions?

A

trigeminal nerve
Through the maxillary and mandibular divisions

46
Q

how are upper incisor teeth innervated?

A

through infraorbital nerve branch of the maxillary nerve (through innfraorbital canal)

47
Q

how are mandibular teeth innervated?

A

inferioralveolar nerve branch of the mandibular nerve (mandibular canal)

48
Q

how are upper teeth vascularised?

A

through infraorbital artery

49
Q

how are lower teeth vascularised

A

through the inferior alveolar artery

50
Q

what is the main artery that vascularises the teeth?

A

external carotid artery

51
Q

What type of teeth do horses have

A

hypsodont
means constantly erupting

52
Q

describe deciduous incisors in horses

A

convex on the labial aspect
concave on the lingual aspect

53
Q

incisors
canines
uppper + Lower 1st PM
Lower 3rd molar

54
