Q

What is subduction?

A

When an oceanic plate meets a continental plate and the denser oceanic plate slides under the less dense continental plate into the asthenosphere
This leads to the formation of a deep trench where the two plates meet.

Q

How are fold mountains formed?

A

Where 2 continental plates meet and subduction cann0t occur. Instead the plates collide, causing the rock along the boundaries to to crumple and form mountains

Q

What are Convergent plate boundaries?

When 2 plates move towards each other and the thinner plate gets pushed under the thicker one. This process is called Subduction

Q

What are Divergent plate boundaries?

A

When 2 plates move apart due to convection currents. This type of movement mostly occurs under the oceans

Q

What are Conservative plate boundaries?

A

When the 2 plates slide past each other due to convection currents. Sometimes, the plates get stuck and build up pressure. This then casues earthquakes
