Humans are capable of creating our own history through imaginative creativity, whereas animals act instinctively. (But not under circumstances of our own choosing, like birth era, parents)

A
- Artefacts - smartphones, laptops, cars
- Activities - texting, taking photos
- Skills - The knowledge of doing those activities
- Modes of organising - networks that connect technology to individual

What does technology do?
A
- Saves time (efficiency)
- Extends forces (eg. hammer vs hand)
- Extends mind (knowledge storer)
- Helps us adapt to environments (eg. house, building)
- Displays status (brands)

A
Technology contributes to our social life in four distinct ways
- Possibility of society - solidify relationships
- Mediators - changes what it is to be in the world (eg. glasses make people competent)
- Members of moral and political associations (eg. discrimination - stairs for disabled, speed bumps)
- Gatherings - gather material from different places and times
