Roles within a family are split by FREE CHOICE of partners

Western mindset of family - parents and siblings
Why does Family Violence occur
Men are supposed to be providers, but in impoverished communities where finding a job is difficult, they assert their power through physical violence
Reserve Army of Labour
Those working (especially women) are kept oppressed, because if they assert theirs rights, there is a ‘reserve’ of other people who can take their jobs
Second shift
At home, women are doing jobs that are much harder
Blood kin, Fictive kin, Household, Satellite or Multi-local families
Blood: Genetically linked
Fictive: Whangai, adoption, still has obligations
Household: Flatmates, friends living together
Satellite: Person leaving family to find work elsewhere
