Communication networks which can only be accessed by an organisation’s employees
Extranets
Communication networks which can be accessed by employees as well as other stakeholders and organisations linked to them such as the government and suppliers

Advanced computer programs that can operate a range of administrative activities previously carried out by employees. Very cost-efficient and even beneficial as their efficiency increases gradually.
Cloud computing
A general term for the delivery of specialist computing services, such as the storage of very large amounts of data, provided by businesses using the internet
Benefits of ICT
Businesses can now employ people from a wide range of locations, not just from factories, offices and shops. There has been an increasing number of people working from home as a result of the ICTs in England.
M-commerce
The buying and selling of products through wireless handheld devices like smartphones.
Digital communication
The transmission of information electronically between computing devices. Eg: sending emails through gmail or texting through whatsapp
Webchat
A simple means of communicating in real time through web browsers like firefox and internet explorer
Applications
Software designed for a specific purpose and for use on an electronic device, eg: on smartphones and tablets.
Social media
Methods of digital communication such as websites and apps. They share information and help to develop social and professional contacts.
Technology’s impact on business
Developments in communications mean that businesses are able to employ people in a wide range of different locations. UK businesses have increasing numbers of employees working from home. Connected to business through electronic systems including the intranets.
