Legislation Flashcards
Legislation
A set of rules that governs the way society operates. We call it “laws”
National Living Wage
Hourly rate of pay set by the government. All employees above the age of 25 (according to the goofy socrative, but now it’s about 23) must receive at least this rate of pay.
Discrimination
Treating people differently from each other without good reason. One example of discrimination would be paying a man and a woman differently even if they contribute the same.
Part-time employee
Works for a proportion of the working week - eg 3 days each week instead of 5. Or less hours each day, so they usually get paid less.
Trade union
A group of workers who act together to improve their pay and working conditions
Contract of employment
Legal document stating the hours, rates of pay, duties and other conditions under which a person is employed.
Motivation
A range of factors which influences how an employee behaves during work, as well as how productive they are.
Consumer laws
Laws that have been introduced to prevent businesses from treating consumers unfairly
Equality Act 2010
