What role do you usually take in a group(behavioural)

A

I am flexible in taking on the role of either, and depending on the situation

for example when i was in year 9, we had to complete a project in humanities and we were assigned groups, where we had to make a projectt to make a video informing about australia indigenous history.
I took the initiative to be a leader and indentified y team members strengths and delegated tasks and we were able to complete the video project on time and achieve a top grade for it.
further, i also love being a team member and working part of a team. for example when i was involved in an environmental club in school, i part of a team and was delegated the task of bakign cookies, along with other two members for the fundraiser at school about environmental awareness.
I succesfuly completed and worked well with other team members offering my suggesstion on how we can carry out this fundraiser successfully raisign money for the new garden we were building

Q

What are the disadvantages/advantages of teamwork?( can be scenario based, or non-scenario based)

A

ADVANTAGES:
-improves efficiency and quality of outcomes
-synergy effects due to COMBINED knowledge and skill

-cultivates communication- and the opportunity to develop strong work relationships in work settings

-iless burnout, as tasks have beeen delgated accordign to skill set and each members holds accountability

DISADVANTAGES:
-people might not work as hard- as they feel like they are carrying less of the load, the issue of that no one does anything as someone else will do it

-there are many clashes in personalities and values, which might make the atmosphere within the team tense and uncomfortable, and might be difficult to create a culture, where everyone feels like they are respected and heard -can lead to possible conflict

-it can take longer as if I was team leader individuals goals would have to be set, schedule a regular meeting, and delegate tasks and lot of time and effort to put into communication .
constanlty try to get feedback on teams members morale-IMPORTANT STEP to stop future conflict resolution

  4. if they are just not pulling their wieght then i would take advice tfrom upper management and take their advice on the issue,
    perhaps this involves
delegate the person task to another person
or taking upon extra work to still achieve
    the poject goal
and not have a big imapct on completing porject
these are the steps i would take

Q

Please give an example when you demonstrate leadership qualities

A

When I got an opportunity to be a leader for my tutorial for two terms, a tutorial leader is someone who is responsible for organizing group activities such as games or other fun activities to do as a tutorial, which consists groups of people from different year levels. Me, as the leader asked everyone on what games/activities they would like to do and through the democratic vote was to play the game , Taboo on thursdays. i was invovled in splitting everyone in the tutorial into equal groups, assigning then as group a, group b and incorporated a reward system such as the most number of wins by the end of the term, everyone in the team would get a favoruites box of chocolates, which motivated everyone to actively participate

. I was also responsible for coordinating the game while it is happening such as who read enacted the words from each respective team through this experience,

i learnt the importance to respect everyone’s opinion as a leader, so that everyone so that everyone cooperate and helps to mitgiate possible conflict and also to try and motivate your team members to help them achieve a common goal.

upon reflection, the ability to be a leader is essential in the medical field, because doctors are often needed to be leader for example a treatment group, or to mentor a medical interns, or lead a group health professionals or a be a leader of a reasearch unit.
to end, this is the last time i demonstrate leadership, and what i learnt from it

Q

please give an example of a good leader you know. what made them a good leader?

A

Mother Teresa is an inspiring leader who helped make a difference in the world by spreading compassion there are three reasons why she is a good leader
1. she looked beyond race, gender, and skin color and help to care for the poor, sick, and disadvantaged aroudn the world and this is an important attribute for a good leader they should be able to value each team member as an individual, regardless of their gender, race, religion, class, country of origin.

  1. she was able to spread happiness across the slum community, through the love she provided and this is essential for modern-day leaders to be able to find ways to share experiences and happiness with the team and acknowledge everyone on the team this in turn will boost the team’s morale and productivity,
  2. she showed compassion and kindness and good leaders are able to show compassion and can build trusting relationships with team members which can turn help strengthen the team as a whole and more likely to achieve common goals.

Q

You are the team leader of a group of 5 for a project. You have noticed that in your team however, the contribution of the members is not equal. Specifically, one of your team members appears to be shy and does not contribute in meetings, whilst one members contributes too much and doesn’t let other speak enough.

  1. have you ever had a similar situation occur in real life and if so how you would approach it?

can ask from your experience what you find advantages of teamwork
=there was a synergy because suggestions from other members on the task at hand
-greater motivation, able to push each other and motivate each other to complete the task and in this case help each other

can ask from your experience what you find disadvantages of teamwork
communication challenges can be faced, in this case, in this my team members were hesitant to speak up about the challenges they are facing with the task.

A
  1. yes, when we had an oral presentation to do in English, where we had to present our findings and interpretations of what we had analyzed to the class, I was in a group of three, and one of my team members was not able to contribute much of our brainstorm on the themes of the book and finding quotes, and presenting the greater ideas present within the ook.
We made a google presentation and I noticed that the team members were not completing their slides as the deadline of the project approached. I took the initiative to talk to her separately away from the members, and ask in a non-confrontational manner, if was there any reason that she was not able to complete her slides, she was able to confide that she was a bit lost with the project and did not understand the task.

so, I asked her if it is okay if we met after school to work on the project and understand her tasks in the project, then we worked together, to address and tried to help her understand her task which is how to analyze the greater themes in the book. After working on this together, she was able to complete her component, and we were able to complete the presentation on time. t

hrough this experience, I learned the importance of understanding that there may a reason that the individual is not contributing, and is good to approach them and work together to address the problem.

Specifically, one of your team members appears to be shy and does not contribute in meetings, whilst one members contributes too much and doesnt let other speak enough.

  1. as the team leader what would your first steps be to alleviate the issue
A
  1. talk to each member privately to clarify is the members and understand the problem and to not make assumptions and understand if they are doing it intentionally or unintentionally and that maybe that person who talks too much does it naturally..

Do not become confrontational or abrupt,
then I would work together with each member to address why this was the case
for the member who had difficulty speaking, i would try to help the team member overcome their issues by undertaking steps such as encouraging them to join public speaking training courses to overcome their fright

try my best to offer assistance on how to improve

with the consent of the team member maybe talk to the team about the issue and provide the member extra time to present if they feel comfortable

after talking to the second member they talked more because they liked taking extra time to explain their opinions then I would try my best to assist the team member and try to explain to the member the benefits of everyone contributing and how new viewpoints could help

maybe introduce a system perhaps where each person had a set time to contribute their ideas and if others did not want to participate, the member could continue to explain his views

As, the team leader, can discuss upper management and seek advice
and implement their advice
which could include stricter measures

how would you mitigate the chances of future conflict arising

A
  1. you can require the members to undertake conflict resolution training as they personally can learn how to deescalate situations
  2. you can require members to undertake conflict prevention training and understand how to avoid the likelihood of conflicts occurring
  3. you can explain to the members the clear protocols in place if there are any of the workplaces for conflict situations so the other members can understand how they can assist in reducing conflict
  4. you can check up with the team regularly to understand if any members are facing any problems and try to resolve the issue

Q

what do you think the impact of conflict is on the team(theoretical)

A
  1. morale can be a big hit when conflict arises, members who were not part of a conflict could feel unhappy as they may side with one or two people in the conflict

reduced morale means there is less productivity and a potential loss of interest in work which could harm the effectiveness and efficiency of the team

  1. the members involved in the argument may not communicate with each other and they could feel uncomfortable or unhappy about talking to each other.
this would also reduce the efficiency as communication within the team would be flawed as other members would also find it hard to talk to the members involved in the conflict
  2. distractions can be caused by conflict, the team could have important tasks to complete but the occurrence of a conflict means that the team mostly likely diverts time away from their tasks to try to solve a problem’

WHY MIGHT CAUSE CONFLICT
1.lack of communication—autocratic team environment
2.different view points—afftect team morale

17
Q

you are a team leader working at a professional company, a major conflict has occurred between two members of your team and you have not yet spoken to them as they have both avoided speaking to each other

A
  1. talk to them privately, try to understand their point of view and their side of the conflict, and try my best to remain impartial to other sides of the conflict
  2. I would then consider organizing a meeting, where I would try to get both members of the team to engage in a conversation where they are able to see each other point of view and try to common consensus, as a team leader I would act as a mediator and help them to come to a common point and compromise. I would also talk the extra step to politely inform of the possible negative impact on the situation such as affecting team morale, as everyone is focused on conflict rather than the team object to completing the project
  3. if the team meeting does not work, then i would consider taking this issue to upper management on how to deal with this issue and try to implement the advice on teh problem i am facing
18
Q

give an example of a time you worked in a team and you failed(not scenario)

A
19
Q

is teamwork important in medicine? why?(not scenario)

A

yes, teamwork is essential in medicine to deliver the high-quality car

doctors specialize in a particular area so the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team is essential for patients with multiple morbidities; healthcare is not just delivered by doctors, it is also delivered by nurses and allied health professionals;

teamwork
increases the speed of intervention, which is essential in trauma cases; teamwork is essential to the training and development of future staff.

20
Q

how do you resolve conflict within a group? (not scenario)

A

able to resolve conflict is a good trait of a team leader or member while still not affecting the group dynamic or the ability to complete one task

humanities project–both people wanted to be leader–because they editign other personthey have excelelnt rpesentaition
took the intiviative
talk to each member and aslo act as a emdicator===compromise we decided weould have two leader an they work to suppro them—team–achive a good grade

upon reflection, doctors should be able to address conflict in healthcare settings to achieve a work culture that values respect and how it can otherwise lead to stress, a toxic work environment, damaged team morale, and affect team productivity which can in turn affect patient outcomes

21
Q

why is it important for a team leader to be able to allocate?

A

a good leader is essential for the success of a team and it is up to them to ensure that each team member is contributing effectively. it is important to be able to allocate work so as to make the most of each team member’s unique skill set.

leaders need to trust in someone else’s opinions/abilities. For example, another team member might have the experience or expertise required for a specific task.

multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) are made up of individuals from different healthcare professions who work together for the purpose of improving patient care. These teams are a perfect example of why the allocation is so important as each member has their own specialized field when dealing with patients with multiple health issues

PE: we had to complete a project in humanities and we were assigned groups, where we had to make a project to make video informing about australia indigenous history. I took the initiative to be a leader and indentified y team members strengthsi.e editing skills)and delegated tasks and we were able to complete the video project on time and achieve a top grade for it, utilisign each members unique skill set
