Explore the meaning of empowerment, advocacy, choice, responsibility and accountability

A

Empowerment - The process of recognizing, promoting and enhancing people’s abilities to meet their own learning needs, solve their own problems and mobilize necessary resources to take control of their lives.

Advocacy - The act of informing and supporting a person so they can make the best decisions for themselves.

Choice - 
Societal Constraints:
Ethical (e.g.. right to die)
Legal (e.g. legal age)
Economic (e.g. private surgery)

Determined by:
Resources, opportunities
Personal preferences

Responsibility
A nurse, by entering the profession, voluntarily commits to and assumes professional responsibilities, duties and rights that are set out by the profession (P&P, 4th ed.).

Accountability
Being able to accept responsibility or to account for one’s actions and refers to being answerable to someone for something one has done.
