What is a Map?
A graphic representation of a portion of the Earth’s surface drawn to scale, as seen from above.

What is the purpose of a map?
To provide accurate information about the existence, location, and distance between ground features.
What are the major terrain features?
Hill, valley, ridge, saddle, depression.
What are the colors on a military map, and what do they represent?
Black–man-made features, buildings and roads.
Blue–water features
Green–Vegetation
Red–roads, cultural features
Brown–relief features, cultivated land
Red-brown–contour lines, cultural and relief features.
What are contour lines?
They show relief and elevation.
List the 3 types of contour lines.
Index, Intermediate, Supplementary.
