Taxonomy Flashcards
The science of naming and classifying organsims
Taxonomy
Place the taxons in order from most general to most specific.
Domain Kingdom Phylus Class Order Family Genus Species
Who developed the taxonomic system we use today?
Carl Linnaues
What is binomial nomenclature?
An internal system for naming organisms.
The scientific name of an organism inlcudes which two taxa?
Genus and Species.
Give two reasons for why it is important to use a taxonomic system
Organization, and it helps scientists communicate.
A virus that infects and replicates within a bacterium.
Bacteriophage.
What must a virus do to be able to reproduce?
Infect a host cell and use the host machinery.
What is the end result in the lytic cycle?
The host cell bursts, and releases new viruses.
How does HIV affect the body?
Infects helper T-Cells that forms the bodies immune system.
How is HIV transmitted?
Transmitted through bodily functions. (Blood, semen, vaginal fluid Ect.)
How does flu affect the body?
Infects respiratory system. (Nose, throat, and lungs.)
How is the flu transmitted?
Through the inhalation or contact with droplets. (From sneezing or coughing.)

Prokaryote Unicellular Autotroph Cell Wall Ex: Amoeba
Bacteria
Prokaryote Unicellular Autotroph or Heterotroph Cell Wall Ex: Gonorrhea
