A

Calculate correct volume of food required per meal (check weight chart and / by number feeds)
Put in gloves and an apron
Assemble 2 5ml syringes
3ml sterile water
5ml normal water
Draw up the volume required for one feed (e.g. 24mls) Hand to examiner

A

Request assistant to restrain the patient
Administer sterile water slowly
State your checking patency and position of tube. Looking for sneezing, coughing or any discomfort.
Next I’m going to administer the food (10ml over 1 min) state in practice that it would normally be 1ml every minute
Administer 5ml of normal water to flush the tube and recap the tube. State that the tube is clean
