Definition of targeting taxonomy
establishes terms of reference for analysts, targeteers, planners and operators to effectively decompose an adversary or potential into its smallest part

Definition target system
all the targets situated in a particular geographic area and functionally related, so related that their destruction will produce some particular effects
Target system components

is an entity or object that performs a function for the enemy considered for possible engagement or other actions
Critical element
an element of an entity or object that enables it to perform its primary function. An element of a target, which if effectively engaged will serve to support the achievement of an operational objective and or mission task
Critical damage point
a particular element of, or point on, the target component that stops the operation or output of the complex when disabled by weapons, demolitions, or sabotage

Is a source of power that provides moral or physical strength, freedom of action, or will to act
Purpose of performing COG
determine and evaluate the enemy s critical vulnerabilities for exploitation
Result of COG
are later used during COA Dec to exploit identified vulnerabilities
Characteristics of COG (3)
Mostly physical at operational and tactical level
Can shift over time or between phases
Is a source of leverage
Definition of critical vulnerabilities
a means that is considered a crucial enablers for a COG to function as such and is essential to the accomplishment of the specified or assumed objective

an aspect of a critical requirements which is deficient or vulnerable to direct or indirect attack that will create decisive or significant effect
