What was social identity theory?
There will be emotional significance in a group and your self-esteem will be bound to a group
Hoffling Tests info:
95% of nurses in Hofflings test were willing to give an overdose despite a doctor not being present - this showed immediacy was not required for people to be obedient (orders were given by telephone)
What did Burgers obedience study do?
It replicated Milgram in a more ethical way and with different people in the modern-day.
Similarities between Burger and Milgram?
Similarities to Milgram:
- Screaming began at 75 volts
- Went up 15V at a time
- Same prompt when people asked to leave
- Advertised role in the newspaper and offered money
Differences between Burger and Milgram?
Differences
- Milgrams was in 1963 Burgers was in 2009
- Burger had a better debrief but still used deception
- Used more protection from harm
- 70% got to 150V
- He tried the experiment in a variation where the subject would get a partner to see if they were less obedient in a group. 68% got to 150
- He used lower voltages and did not allow it to get as high so they didn’t think they could have done major harm
- Used men and women
What were the Nuremberg trials?
The Nazi trials based around whether people can be prosecuted for actions done under the command
What is Mean?
Mean - average - add up all the data and divide by the number of points
What is the Median?
Median - middle - put values in order and find the middle value
What is Mode?
Mode - most frequent - whatever appears most often in the data set - there can be more than 1
What is the Range?
Range - subtract the lowest value from the highest
