Sebastian Hernandez-Gil (Contemporary Study) (2) Flashcards
What was the aim of Sebastian Hernandez-Gils study (2012)?
Aim: to investigate the development of the phonological loop through digit span. In Spanish children, Anglo Saxon children and Anglo-Saxon elderly/those with dementia
What was the procedure of Sebastian Hernandez-Gils study?
Procedure - it was a field experiment. Spanish children aged 5-17 recalled increasing digit sequences and were compared to other groups
What were the findings of Sebastian Hernandez-Gils study?
Findings - Digit span increased with age but elderly people and those with dementia had similar memory to a 5-6 year old
What were the conclusions of Sebastian Hernandez-Gils study?
Conclusions - Spanish digit span was lower than anglo saxon however it was due to word length rather than actual difference. Loop capacity was limited by age but not dementia
Strengths of Sebastian Hernandez-Gils study?
-very standardised procedure (eg diets read allowed at constant rate)
Weaknesses of Sebastian Hernandez-Gils study?
- small sample size
- not generalisable only Spanish
- children were not tested for impairments
