T Cells Flashcards
Where do T cells mature?
Thymus
Where do B cells mature?
Bone marrow
What happens to thymus when we get older?
It’s a large organ in young children. As we get older, it shrivels in shape
What does MHC stand for?
Major histocompatibility complex
What is MHC?
Surface expressed molecule which binds to peptides derived from antigen + presents to T cells
It encodes for human leukocyte antigen (HLA)
What are 2 types of MHC?
MHC class I MHC class II
What is MHC I?
HLA-A,B + C
Are expressed on ALL nucleated cells and presents peptide to CD8+ T cells and is signal for cytotoxic response
What is MHC class II?
HLA-D
Are expressed on professional antigen presenting cells
And presents peptide to CD4+ T cells to qualify immune response: cytotoxicity/ humoral
Give examples of antigen presenting cell?
Dendritic cells
Macrophages
B cells
What do CD4 T cell recognise?
They recognise peptide in binding groove of MHC II
What are 2 types of CD4 cells?
T helper cells
T regulatory cells
What are 4 types of CD4+ cells?
TH1, TH2, TH17, Treg
What is an example of CD8+ T cell?
Cytotoxic T cells (CTL)
What are two types of T cells?
aB T cells
y/g T cells
What are aB T cells?
Includes
Helper T cells
Cytotoxic T cells
Regulatory T cells
