T Cell activation and generation of effector T cells Flashcards
What do CD8 cells do after detecting peptide on MHC molecule?
Release granzymes to kill infected cells
How do antigens enter lymph nodes?
APC (usually dendritic cell) pick up antigen from infected site and travel to lymph node.
What happen to T cells once released into lymph nodes?
Patrol node to node and if dendritic cell is present with target antigen, T cell binds and becomes activated
What happen to T cells once activated?
T cells move through circulation to infection site depending on chemokines from infection site
Where are naiive T cell activated?
secondary lyphoid organs (spleen and lymph nodes) and become effector T cells
Which cells present antigens t activate T cells in the lymphoid organs? and why
PROFESSIONAL ANTIGEN PRESENTING CELLS since they express high levels of MHC class 2 and also express co-stimulatory molecules!!!
What are the 3 signals for naive t cell activation?
signal 1 - antigen recongition (via TCR and MHC complex)
signal 2 - costimulation
signal 3 - cytokines
Which of the three signals initiate an immune response?
signal 1 - antigen recongition
Where are co-ctimulatory signals?
Mostly on dendritic cells, may also be on macrophages or B cells
