Systems 3.1.1.1 Flashcards
Inputs
When matter or energy is added to the system
Outputs
When energy or matter leaves he system
Stores / components
Part of a system where energy or mass is stored or transformed
Boundaries
Limits of a system
System
A set of interated components working together towards some kind of process
3 types of proprerty and what they are
Elements - things that make up the system
Attributes - perceived characteristics of elements
Relationships - destitution of how elements work together to a carry out a process
Positive feedback
Effects of an action are amplified by know on / secondary effects
Negative feedback
Effects of an action are nullified by ta subsequent know on effects
Dynamic equilibrium
Balanced inputs and outputs
3 types of system and what they are
Isolated - no interactions with anything outside boundary, no inputs or outputs. Not in nature, usually experiments
Closed - matter can’t leave or enter, only energy. E.g. carbon cycle
Open - both energy and matter can enter and leave the system. E.g. drainage basin
