What are the clinical signs associated with mycoplasmal polyserositis?
Stiff limbs
Respiratory: dyspnea, abdominal breathing
May recover then will become unthrifty
What agents cause mycoplasmal polyserositis?
M. hyorhinis (3-10 weeks of age)
M. hyosynoviae (8+ weeks of age)
aerosol/nasal contact or by mm in suckling pigs
What are the necropsy findings for pigs with mycoplasmal polyserositis?
Serofibrinous pleuritis
Pericarditis
Peritonitis
Synovial hypertrophy
increased synovial fluid
What are the clinical signs associated with Streptococcus suis?
starts with septicemia
then to arthritis, meningitis, pericarditis, endocarditis, polyserositis & pneumonia
CNS signs (paddling, tremors, blindness) along with lameness
What are the causative agents of streptococcus suis?
H. parasuis & actinobacillus suis
stressor causes flare up
live in the nose and tonsils of healthy pigs
sows can harbor in vagina
What are the treatments for streptococcus suis?
Ceftiofur
Penicillin
What are the clinical signs of Glasser’s Disease (infectious polyarthritis)?
Sudden fever
Dyspnea & harsh lung sounds
Very lame, stiff and short gait
Sudden death
What is the causative agent of Glasser’s disease?
Haemophilus parasuis
