What is BREEAM?

A

Voluntary environmental assessment tool to rate new, refurbishment and operational buildings.
Building’s impact is rated by BREEAM assessors by reference to 9 weighted environmental categories including energy consumptions, water use, transport links, waste management and health and wellbeing.

Tell me about the Potential Changes to the Minimum energy efficiency standards 2015 (MEES) Regime?

A

On 20.09.23 Prime Minister announced proposed changes to EPC and MEES reg in in respect of proposal to raise MEES reg to EPC band C for new tenancies by 2024 and all tenancies by 2028.
Still proposed that the changes to MEES reg may change in future to require a min EPC rating of B for ll new tenancies from 2030.

How long are EPCs valid and what types of buildings are exempt?

A

They are valid for ten years and exemptions include listed buildings, religious buildings and buildings set to be demolished.
